In 2015, the competition was fierce to say the least. Gavin Coombs takes the overall Men's at 16:39, but just barely missed the course record set by Justin Zwick (2014) of 16:10. However, in the Women's division, Kimberlie Meeker edges out Jennifer Zwick's course record (2014) of 19:00!! AND Cary Park's own Sam Guo finally reels in a medal in the overall!! Below are the OVERALL MALE & FEMALE finishers.
The Cary Park 5K Run/Walk race takes place on a certified USATF 5K course held within the Cary Park community in West Cary. The course is both challenging and scenic. The race begins at the Cary Park clubhouse and proceeds down a roller coaster of hills on Cary Glen Blvd and Walford Way to the Cary Park Lake. The lake is encompassed by a paved Town of Cary's Cary Park Lake Greenway, which makes up about half of the course. After a lap around the relatively flat lake, it’s a return trip through the roller coaster and an uphill stretch to the finish line, known as the monster mile, the same name given to our 1-mile fun run as they have to take on the monster as well! The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Walkers and strollers are welcome and very much encouraged.
After the 5K race, we are holding the Monster Mile Fun Run to encourage both children and adults to challenge themselves to exercise for fun as every step counts! This begins at 9:30 a.m. Walkers are welcome for this event too. There is no time chips for this event however we will start the clock at the shotgun start.
Be sure to hang around for the post-race raffle and award ceremony. Many great items raffled off; some as door prizes for registrants and some some by buying tickets for as low as $1 each. This is open to all so bring some spare change and try your luck whil support a great cause!
