Welcome to our 7th annual Day of the Dead 5k happening Saturday, October 28th 2017. The Day of the Dead 5k was originally created to honor my sister Margarita's memory after she passed away on Oct 2nd 2003. This beautiful holiday offered me an incredible space to remember her and her amazing soul. We have once again partnered with the Brentwood Boys & Girls Clubs in an effort to give back to the Latin American community by offering the kids an opportunity to do something fun and healthy-something Margarita believed in deeply.
This year we have a goal to sponsor more than a 100 kids from the Club to run the race through our “Sponsor a little runner” program where $25 dollars can contribute to pay a member’s entry fee. During the last seven years we have had over 3,200 runners and have been able to contribute over $73K to the Boys & Girls Club.
This year the race will start at 10:00am, and as usual the race course goes through Oakwood cementery and loop back to Wilmington St. We will have two altars; one at Oakwood cemetery and one on Wilmington Street where people will be able to do offerings of flowers and written messages in memory of their loved ones. There will be an art corner for the kids sponsored by Artspace, face painting by Paint Savvy, the best prices from local businesses, for top runners and best costumes, our famouse dance-off costume and our Dear Nick Neptune as MC and DJ of this amazing event.
As if this wasn't enough, this year we are adding a new incentive to all runners- MARGARITAS! All runners 21+ will finish the race at Gallo Pelón with a Celebratory (FREE) Day of the Dead Margarita, and don't worry if your under age... we've got something special for you too!
So, REGISTER NOW, share with your friends, dress up and join us for an amazing fun time.
