Awards and Elite Athletes

Awards

Our monetary awards are shown below.  Both elites and non-elites compete for these awards.  These awards are based on GUN TIME, not chip time.  An athlete may win only one award and may, after the race, choose the award for overall competition or for the competition in the athlete's age group but not both.

Marathon 1st 2nd 3rd
Overall $1250 $1000 $750
Masters $500 $350 $250
Military $450 $300 $200

Half Marathon 1st 2nd 3rd
Overall $750 $600 $450
Masters $400 $300 $200
Military $350 $250 $150

Note:  Our Ruck division is a non-competitive division not eligible for awards.

Age Group Awards

Age Groups are based on the runner's age at the end of the day of the race.  Our Age Groups are:

  • 12 and under / 13-15 / 16-19 / 20-24 / 25-29 / 30-34 / 35-39 / 40-44 / 45-49 / 50-54 / 55-59 / 60-64 / 65-69 / 70-74 / 75-79 / 80+

Note:  Our non-monetary Age Group awards (which are various mementos which vary each year) are based on CHIP TIME (also referred to as "net time"), not gun time, so even if you are the first person in your Age Group to cross the finish line, you may not be first place in your Age Group if a faster runner started later than you did.

Elites

Potential elite participants must submit a detailed running resume before February 15 to elites@TobaccoRoadMarathon.com. All entrants will be decided on a case-by-case basis.  Acceptance may be based by the number and times of previously-accepted elites, so applying early is recommended.
