Overview

Last year over 250 runners and walkers registered for this event which takes place at the WakeMed Soccer Park.  Since it is run on the course used in many high school and college cross-country meets, it was an excellent opportunity for harriers to test their fitness before the cross-country season begins.

Zack Schwartz won the race in 16:16 breaking the old event course record by 18 seconds.  Noelani Lum won the women’s competition in 22:16. Heidi Ertl’s 19:25 is the record for the women set in 2014.

The race is being managed by the Carolina Family Practice and Sports Medicine in Cary. On May 2, 2011, tragedy struck the Carolina Family Practice and Sports Medicine family when Amy Diaz, one of their beloved employees, suffered the heartbreaking loss of her beautiful and charismatic baby daughter Bella Rose to the dreadful mystery that is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS.

To honor her, Carolina Family Practice & Sports Medicine is working with the help of First Candle to organize the event. Proceeds from the event will help promote research and awareness for the terrible mystery that is SIDS.
