Race Description

This is a family friendly 5K run/walk with a 1 mile route as well as a kids 100yard dash for our 8 and under runners. The race will start near the “Dinners at Home” near the corner of Heritage Lakes Drive and Rogers Road in Wake Forest, NC. The run course will be an out-and-back route on residential streets only.

The 5k (3.1mile) route will begin at 8am, the 100yard dash will begin at 9am followed immediately with the 1 mile run. The 1mile run will do the first 0.5 miles of the run course then turn around.

This run is being put on by Turning Miles into Smiles, a group who focuses on using their physical abilities to help charities that truly make children smile. The Buddy Run benefits the Wake Forest and Rolesville Backpack Buddy groups.

Backpack Buddies is a group of volunteers who collect, fill, and distribute backpacks filled with healthy, satisfying food for children to take home on the weekends. The children helped here are children who might not have any food to eat outside of the school provided breakfast and lunch. We want to feed our kids – no child needs to be hungry when we can make a difference!

It is our hope that we will be able to donate 100% of our entry fees directly to the local Backpack Buddies programs!

Race Day Information

We will have a donation truck setup on race day and are asking people to bring a pre-packaged, easy-to-open, non-perishable food item that is appropriate and healthy for small children. This is a great way to get kids involved in community service. Let them pick out their favorite (healthy) food item and give that to a child who is truly hungry!
Parking is available at the Harris Teeter parking lot on Rogers Road and Heritage Lakes Drive. If you live in Heritage Wake Forest please try to walk or ride your bike to this event and save parking for those traveling to our neighborhood.

Packet Pickup

Packet Pickup will be Friday 4-6pm and Saturday 6:45am

11/17/2010: If you prefer to register on-site you can find us on Friday, September 17 from 4pm-6pm in front of the Goddard School on Rogers Road in Heritage Wake Forest.

RACEDAY: On Saturday, September 18 from 6:45am-7:45am we will be in the parking lot near the run start, behind Walgreens on Heritage Lake Road just north of Rogers Road.  Online directions T-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 250 adults and the first 100 children.  Extras are ordered but they are given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
