Events News

Although there will be plenty of parking available at the race site, please plan to arrive early on race day as the main entrance road will be shut down close to race time. Once the race begins, you will not be able to exit the park until the last bike has returned.  Spectators are welcome along the vendor area near the swim and transition area. There will also be “cheering zones” at two churches on the bike course.  Body Marking, chip pickup, etc. will be held in the vendor area outside of transition area.

Race Description

The triangular swim will take place in Lake Hickory. By this time of year, the water should be in the high 70’s to low 80’s which should provide a welcome relief to the warm midsummer days. No wake, no current, just a nice easy swim. We will utilize a multiple wave start which should provide enough spacing for newer and experienced swimmer alike. Exiting the lake, there will be an approx. 50 yard jog into the transition area.

A water temperature reading will be given on race morning to let you know if you are able to use a wetsuit or not for the event!

The bike course is a 2 loop ride which could best be described as rolling. Surprisingly, although the area is known for its hilly terrain, the bike course is absent of any major climbs, with a nice mix of up and down rolls, but does provide some nice countryside views.

For the run, you will exit the park in the same manner as during the bike. The course is best described as rolling with the only climb coming during the first mile as you exit the park (which also means that the last mile is mostly downhill). The entire course should prove to be enjoyable for both the beginner and experienced triathlete alike.

The course revolves around a transition area on the Lake Hickory waterfront. The same transition area will be utilized for the entire race. The transition area will open at 5:00am on race day; ALL bikes must be set and ALL athletes must be out of the transition area before it closes at 7:15am.

Race Day Information

There is one road leading into and out of the race site. For this reason it is imperative that all cars be inside the parking area no later than 7am, any one trying to enter after this time will be turned around. This will ensure that all bikes are set and all athletes are out of the transition area by 7:15am. The race will start at 7:30am which should keep road traffic to a minimum and also lessen exposure to the heat.

Affiliated Charities

Alexander County YMCA

If you want to do a great race that has a great cause (and did I mention the technical race shirts), this is the one. All money raised through participation, sponsorship, etc., will be used locally to promote cancer awareness and help families in the area who are suffering through this terrible disease.
First off, the YMCA will build a playground at their new facility in Taylorsville, NC in memory of Celicia Wicker. Mrs. Wicker was a local teacher who leaves behind a husband and 2 children. The playground will serve as a symbol of what this disease can do not just to individuals but families alike. That leads to part two of our program. The YMCA and the Hickory Tri Club will be teaming up through a program that we call “Cancer in the Home.” The idea is to help out as many local families as resources allow by helping out with bills, Christmas for the kids, etc; basically, whatever is needed.
