The 9th annual Carolina Pediatric Dentistry Buddy Run will be Saturday, September 16, 2017 with festivities running from 7am-10am. There will 3 on-site events, as well as a virtual race.

- 8:30am: 3.1mile/5K chip-timed run/walk

We begin right in front of Discovery Point on Thompson Glenn in Heritage Wake Forest. Continue through the round-a-bout following Heritage Links to Marshall Farm. Turn left on Marshall Farm and go up to Hartsfield Forest where you turn left. The aid-station and u-turn is at the end of Hartsfield Forest; return and come on back.
At the half-way point for the 5K, you will find our Dirty Dogs Sponsored Aid Station with ice cold water and maybe some special K9 friends!
The 5K is USATF certified and sanctioned, therefore bicycles, tricycles, skates, boards, or scooters are not allowed.
The packet pickup location is our local running store - Run-n-Tri Outfitters located at 11831 Retail Drive near Home Depot & Staples in Wake Forest. Registration will be available onsite and t-shirts will be given out to new registrations as they are available.
- Friday, September 15, 4-6pm
- Saturday, September 16, 7-8am
Our post race party is very kid-friendly with free face painting, a bounce house, sidewalk chalk, coloring books, games, and snacks. Sometimes we even have a special appearance by Kona Ice (snow cones!) and Sweetie's Candy Shop with their popcorn machine!
We ask that everyone attending our event (runner, volunteer, or spectator) please bring a food item for our race weekend food drive. While you are running, the Backpack Buddies groups are organizing and dividing the food so that it can be used immediately to feed our local children.
This is a great way to get children of every age involved in community service. Every child understands what it feels like to be hungry. Take them to the store and give them $5 to purchase items for the food-drive.
Not sure what to buy? Click over to the NEW Backpack Buddies site to see what they need right now: newbackpackbuddies.org
It takes about 40 volunteers to make this race happen - with most of those being easy jobs on the race course. This is a great way for high school students to get community service hours. Interested in volunteering? Click on the Volunteer tab above and signup!
The Buddy Run has a long-standing tradition of dog tags. We've been doing the race for 9 years and the last 7 we have had dog tags for every finisher.
What do you do with your dogtag? Well, I have mine on my keychain, hanging from my rearview mirror in my car, and a few extra on my medal rack. Cut the chain and put it on your kids backpack. Hardware is hardware, right!
The North East Wake (N.E.W.) Backpack Buddies program is the primary beneficiary of The Buddy Run. However, if you are near Wake Forest and not supported by them we are happy to have you present at the race to take some food with you!
N.E.W. Backpack buddies provides food every weekend to children who are identified as ‘food insecure’ by teachers and guidance counselors at each school. The bags contain kid friendly food for the weekend meals and snacks. There are approximately 400 children receiving weekly bags from North East Wake Backpack Buddies.
