The Race
The Nelson Bay Challenge Triathlon makes its 2008 reappearance after a year off. This race features unique awards and the famous post race clam bake. The swim will be in Nelson Bay, a sheltered bay off Core Sound. The water is salty and has little current. The bike course is an out and back, following Highway 12 East toward Cedar Island over the Monroe Gaskill Memorial Bridge and back. The run course is an out and back, following Highway 70 West over the Dan Taylor Memorial Bridge and back. Water stations are provided at the turn around point on the bike and on the run. The finish line is in near the transition area.
The race course revolves around a transition area next to the Sea Level Inn. The same transition area will be used for all phases. The transition area will open at 8 am; ALL bikes need to be placed in position before the transition area closes at 9:45am.
