This is the first stop of the "Inside-Out Sports 4 City Duathlon Series"
Greenville: known as the home of East Carolina University and eastern style barbeque. It is also the home location for one of the largest triathlon club in NC, "The Tricredibles".
During the 2008 race season "FS Series" and the "Tricredibles" developed a relationship which would eventually come to benefit the duathlon series. Bruce Richter one of the leaders of the "Tricredibles" worked with "FS Series" to find ways to improve on an already great series. One of the suggestions was to look into other locations as the first stop and stay consist in the planning process by utilizing routes deemed as favorites of the locals.
Greenville, NC is located 1 hour 15 minutes east of Raleigh, it is centrally located in Eastern Carolina and home to many multisport athletes. This developing city has something to offer the entire family.
This is the first time that Boyd Lee Park has hosted a duathlon. The park is relatively new and offers an area for children to play safely, and allow spectators a chance to watch their favorite athlete pass by mulitple times.
The run is located on the grounds of Boyd Lee Park and has been used for area cross country championships over the last couple of years. Both legs of the run will use the same route. The first run will be a 2 lap loop design course with each loop consisting of 1.5 miles to equal 3 miles total for the race. The second run will be 1 lap of the same loop as the first leg to equal 1.5 miles.
The bike will take each duathlete on an out and back route through rural Pitt County. These roads will allow each athlete to grind it out to top speeds without worries about rough road surfaces.
The race course revolves around a transition area located at the Boyd Lee Park. The same transition area will be used for all phases. The transition area will open at 9am; ALL bikes need to be placed in position before the transition area closes at 10:45am.
